These support items are for participants who are employed and who are less independent in performing their work tasks or need frequent prompting and coaching to stay on track, communicate with others, or manage their behaviours.
Supports may be provided one to one or within a group-based setting, complimenting existing or expected employer supports, and claimed according to the intensity and frequency of supports delivered to achieve employment goals. Supports can include:
• On the job assessments related to the impact of a person’s disability on their ability to work
• Job customisation
• On-the-job training and intermittent support with daily work tasks
• Direct supervision and/or group-based support to enable meaningful participation at work
• Physical assistance and personal care delivered in the workplace
• Supports to manage disability-related behaviour or complex needs at work
• Non face-to-face activities that are directly related to supporting a participant’s employment.
Specialist support coordination is a higher level of support. The focus is on reducing complexity in the participant’s support environment and helping the participant overcome immediate and/or significant barriers in plan implementation.
Specialist support coordination helps participants:
- Address complex barriers that affect their access to supports
- Design a service plan for their support needs, where appropriate.
Specialist disability accommodation (SDA) is a range of housing designed for people with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs.
SDA dwellings have accessible features to help residents live more independently and allow other supports to be delivered better or more safely.
Participants eligible for SDA:
- Have an extreme functional impairment or very high support needs
- Meet the specialist disability accommodation needs requirement and the NDIS funding criteria
